Millage Rate Information

Millage Rates
Property is taxed according to millage rates assessed by different government entities. In Gwinnett County, these normally include state, county, county bond, the detention center bond, schools, school bond, recreation and cities (where applicable).
 
One "mill" equals $1.00 of property taxes for every $1,000 of assessed valuation. The rates of several taxing authorities usually combine to make up your total tax bill.

The chart below shows millage rates for unincorporated Gwinnett County and for incorporated (city) areas billed by Gwinnett County.

The chart above shows cities which the Gwinnett County Tax Commissioner bills for Gwinnett County and Gwinnett County School taxes only. You may receive an additional and separate bill for city taxes if you live in one of the eight cities listed below.

2012 City Millage Rates
If you live in the city of Auburn, Braselton, Buford, Duluth, Loganville, Norcross, Resthaven or Suwanee, contact your city directly to determine the current city millage rate.
State Millage Rate
The state of Georgia charges .20.  Beginning in 2012, the state millage rate will be gradually be phased out until it is completely eliminated in 2016.
County Millage Rate
This tax helps to pay for County government operations and projects.
Detention Center Bond Millage Rate
This is a 0.24 mill increase that was voter-approved in 2002 for jail expansion. 
School Millage Rate
This pays for the everyday operations of the schools located in Gwinnett County.  
School Bond Millage Rate
The school bond portion of the millage rate helps to pay off debt that is generated when new schools are built. 
Recreation Millage Rate
This portion of the millage rate helps pay for parks and other recreation services. 
City (if billed by Gwinnett County) Millage Rate
If you reside in Berkeley Lake, Dacula, Grayson, Lawrenceville, Lilburn, Peachtree Corners, Snellville, or Sugar Hill, this number will reflect the millage rate of your city taxes. For properties in other cities or in unincorporated Gwinnett, this rate will be zero.
